Gradings

All of our courses are graded to help you decide what sort of level you are at.

  • The Terrain Guide is a straightforward system of grading is similar to the continental ski grading system.  It gives you an idea of of the sort of terrain you will be faced with.
  • The Fitness Guide will give you an indication of how fit you should be to get the most out of the holiday.

Terrain Guide

Green
Wide forestry trails or rough farm tracks.
Blue
Rolling single or double tracks with some bumpy sections
Red
Steep, technical and rocky ascents and descents.
Black
Trails with large rocks, deep ruts, tree roots and drop offs.

Fitness Guide

1
I'm not a very experienced, but can ride a bike steadily for 3 or 4 hours.
2
I'm pretty fit and can ride hilly terrain for a few hours in a day.
3
I ride regulary and can keep a good pace all day in rough/hilly terrain.
4
"Je suis un Super Hero!".  I can ride challenging terrain all day long.

Important:  Please bear in mind that these grades are just a guideline as to what the course typically entails.  There may for example be a couple of sections of Blue to be tackled on a Green course or short Red sections on a Blue course.  But ultimately we’ll take you to the areas that suit your abilities best, encourage you to tackle terrain that will challenge you, and avoid trails that simply will not be fun.
