Useful Information
Here are the answers to a few of our most Frequently Asked Questions:-
Do I need to wear a helmet?
- Yes, helmets are compulsory on all Momentum Adventure courses. We also strongly recommend the use of protective glasses and gloves. All of which we will lend you if you do not have your own.
What else do I need to bring with me?
- A small rucksack (or hydration system).
- Water and a little food e.g. cereal bars or bananas.
- Clothes suitable for mountain biking in. We recommend padded cycling shorts or leggings, non-cotton t-shirts, a lightweight fleecey top, a lightweight windproof/waterproof jacket and trainers or off-road cycling shoes.
- A couple of spare inner tubes, a pump and a basic set of tools is always handy too.
- If you are thinking of purchasing any of these items, we recommend that you take at look at www.keswickbikes.co.uk
What sort of bike do I need?
- We have no prejudices as to what you ride. However, you will need a bike that fits you, is in good working condition and you’ll be happy to ride on rough terrain.
- If you’re in any doubt about the suitability of your cycle, then we will happily arrange a hire bike for you. We use hire shops local to the area of the riding, so it is ideal if you can let us know in advance that you will require a hire bike.
- Or if you're considering purchasing a bike, try www.keswickbikes.co.uk who have a superb range of bikes and preferential deals for Momentum Adventure customers.
What about your mountain bike guides?
- All of our guides are experienced and enthusiastic mountain bikers. All are qualified to a high standard under the Scottish Mountain Bike Leaders Award Scheme.
Can I bring a large group?
- Definitely. And if you have a group of 5+ people, we’ll be happy to put on a course especially for you.
- Plus, don’t forget to ask us about discounts. You’ll always get a 10% discount for 5+, but we may have better offers on at the time. See Special Offers for details of what’s currently available.
What sort of accommodation do you use and will I have to share?
- We use a variety of accommodation including hostels, B&B’s, guesthouses and hotels. The course or holiday price will reflect this.
- Please be aware that hostels almost always have dormitory style accommodation and it is likely that you will need to share a room with other course members and/or other members of the public.
- If you’re coming solo onto a course, you’ll never pay a single supplement unless you specifically request a single room. Sometimes this may mean that you share a room, other times you may get a room to yourself.
What about insurance?
- Momentum Adventure carries extensive public liability and professional insurance.
- We advise everyone that they should research the benefits of having Personal Accident Insurance before undertaking any adventure activity.
What if I injure myself?
- As with everything in life, a little bit of commonsense is what is called for. Anyone undertaking adventure activities such as mountain biking must acknowledge the potential for a genuine accident to happen. Part of out guides' role is to make sure that you don't get yourself into dangerous or life threatening situations, but they also want you to have an exhilarating time. We'll do our utmost to keep you safe, but you are ultimately the one in control of your own bike, body and mind. Ride with care!
- We expect everyone to read and agree to the following participation statement; “Outdoor activities including mountain biking are physical and demanding sports, which have inherent hazards associated with them. Whilst Momentum Adventure takes all necessary precautions to try to ensure the safety of all participants, unfortunately accidents will occur in consequence. Each participant should familiarise themselves with the hazards and try to minimise these as much as possible by complying with Momentum Adventure risk management guidelines.Momentum Adventure accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any loss or injury resulting from any persons’ involvement in outdoor activities, including mountain biking. Furthermore, it is understood and agreed that individuals participate at their own risk."
